A Great Place to Live

It's the middle of winter and I just came in from trimming plants in the yard which is quite lush right now.  Some of the plants are confused with leaves that died in a recent freeze, while fresh stems are sprouting.
And yesterday was one of the greatest block parties I remember.  20th St. between Jackson and Albert was blocked off in the Garden District, and so many friends gathered in Mardi Gras regalia as "Jamie Bergeron and the Kickin Cajuns" from Church Point, LA, played Zydeco and Cajun music for a couple of hours.  Great snack food from crawfish cheese dip to clam dip to red beans and rice and on and on was plentiful, as was the beverage.

Historic House Fair - National Register Garden District

On a beautiful Spring morning, the Alexandria Historic Preservation Commission sponsored the Historic House Fair in the 1900 block of White Street in the National Register Garden District.  Booths along the street provided information about old homes, preservation, antique wood, historic Bolton High School, several non-profits, researching your old home, open houses, tax credits, and other topics. Hundreds of neighbors attended and enjoyed the festive occasion accompanied by jazz and period music and guided trolley tours of the historic Garden District.
