We enjoyed a visit to Taliesen, the wonderful home that Wright designed and built in the side of a hill in Spring Green.
It was so nice to spend a couple of nights with Margaret and Tom Henzler, friends from West Chester who retired to Madison. What a treat on a rainy morning to enjoy the farmers market around the Capitol Square, and then tour the Monona Terrace Convention Center which Frank Lloyd Wright designed but was not built until the 90s.
Then we enjoyed 5 days in Door County staying at the Glidden Lodge on Whitefish Bay. At a leisurely pace we visited towns like Sturgeon Bay, Algoma, Bailey's Harbor, Gills Rock, Fish Creek, Ellison Bay, Ephraim, Sister Bay, and Valmy. Wisconsin cheeses are world class and their wine is, well, their wine. Door County is a beautiful peninsula with Green Bay on the west and Lake Michigan on the east. It is unspoiled with no chain motels/hotels north of Sturgeon Bay. It was a wonderful place to visit at this time before the rest of the tourists arrive; the weather was sunny with highs mostly in the 60s and lows in the 40s. It was peaceful.
