Abbeville, Louisiana

a great place for fine food
Eggplant Abbeville
grilled oysters
February 3 was a special day in the charming old town of Abbeville, Louisiana, the parish seat of Vermilion Parish.  Lunch was at Dupuy's Oyster Shop where we enjoyed a variety of grilled oysters and eggplant Abbeville which was loaded with crabmeat.

After touring the charming town which is centered around St. Mary Magdalen Church on the square, we viewed industrial landmarks representing two important area industries:
rice mill
  • The old but active Planters Rice Mill operated by the Abbeville Family Partnership.  Rice is an important crop in the area.
  • Steens Syrup Company with a variety of products with the classic yellow label.  Sugar cane fields are prominent in southwest Louisiana.  From the company office, we purchased several products.

After leaving Abbeville, we stopped at Hebert's Specialty Meats in Maurice, LA and brought home a de-boned chicken with jalapeno stuffed potato.  We enjoyed this fine Cajun meal the next evening.
