Cafe des Amis - Zydeco breakfast

On Saturday morning, 8/17, we drove down to Breaux Bridge to arrive at 7:30 for breakfast and to hear some good Zydeco music as the dancers enjoyed this great Saturday morning ritual.  Cafe Des Amis is a great restaurant with great food.  I enjoyed Eggs Des Amis while Judy enjoyed Eggs Begnaud.  Here's a video of the dancing with music by Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boys.  Enjoy!

Do Dragonflys Bite?

Yes, but only when provoked.
The other day we found a large green dragonfly, about 5" long, in our back room bouncing against the window panes trying to get out.  I tried to carefully grab him to take him outside.  His immediate reaction was to curl his tail like a scorpion; then he turned his head and bit my thumb drawing a drop of blood.  I let him go.  Next I used a handkerchief to protect me and was successful in carrying him outside to freedom.

The dragonfly is one of my favorite insects, so beautiful with their intricate patterns and graceful flight.  Read more about them biting here.

My Friend, Malcolm Denley

Today's edition of The Town Talk featured a great story about my dear friend, Dr. Malcolm Denley, and his associate, Dr. Culpepper.  They took care of most children growing up in Alexandria for over half a century.  Malcolm and I enjoy swapping stories over coffee every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday when I stop by his house before 7 a.m. while on my walk.  Here's a link to the article.

Pepper Plants

My pepper plants on the patio are thriving.  I've got cayenne, jalapeno, serrano, hot banana, and tabasco.  The tabasco peppers are the smallest and most potent, and the cayenne are quite good.  I enjoy chopping them up and adding them to a drained can of red beans along with some chopped onion, salt, and olive oil.
